Prayer Beads and How To Use Them
by Peace Mother Geeta Sacred Song

In the Eastern tradition, repeating a mantra 108 times is considered a power-full number to transform energy.

This article covers not only how to use prayer beads effectively, but how
prayer beads can assist you and how to choose the right prayer beads.

What Are Prayer Beads Used For?

Prayer beads can act as a protection tool that you can wear around your neck or place it in
anywhere you wish, as it is vibrating with the power of your mantras that been repeated by you,
whilst using these beads. Some people also find it helpful to use prayer beads while chanting.

With prayer beads, not only are you able to count the number of prayers you have done,
but it also is a very effective tool to put forth an action behind your thought and word of your
mantra. Together with thought, word and deed, whatever you wish to manifest in your life is made
manifest very quickly.

How Prayer Beads Can Assist You

Prayer beads are an easy way to generate great spiritual power to remove obstacles and dangers inherent in the Spiritual Path. Many global traditions such as the Buddhists, Hindus and Catholics all use prayer beads to connect with their Source.  By using prayer beads, mantra repetition becomes supremely easy and you will find that it instills in you a sense of refuge, connecting you to a place of peace within you.

The ever-busy mind can get easily side-tracked and prayer beads provide a natural and soothing way of offering hundreds of thousands of repetitions without straining. Before you know it, you have easily completed a previously unimaginable number of repetitions! You will discover the practice becoming natural and soothing to you, whereas without the beads, it is too easy to be sidetracked by the ever-busy ‘monkey’ mind that Loves to hop from one tangent to the next.

The way the beads assist you is simple yet power-full: By associating the repetition of the mantra, with the movement of passing each bead through your fingers, you are infusing your mind, body and spirit with positive programming.

Associating an action with a practice creates an alarm clock that re-minds you of the power of mantra/prayer repetition. You will then find that the mind will become accustomed to the action and you will find your hands desiring the movement, whenever you are not passing the beads through your fingers. The mind and body have recorded that the mantra is repeated every time the prayer bead is moved through the fingers, and they Love it! Any repetitive action becomes a habit…but this habit creates leaps of Joy within our spirit…so soul, mind and body all join in and crave more of this transformative practice.

Choosing the Right Prayer Beads For You

I use prayer beads from many traditions, as what is important to me is not what tradition it originates from, rather that I resonate with the colour, material and overall visual image of the beads. The feel and visual image of the beads must be pleasing to your soul at that time. At another time, you may be moved to use another type of prayer bead. Prayer beads must inspire—they should attract you and fill you with a soul contentment, a Happiness to wear them, look at them and touch them. If they don’t inspire, you will not be pulled use them.

At times I have been drawn to using the rosewood beads from India or other wooden rosaries from Mexico and yet other times either a pink, green, yellow, purple, turquoise or electric blue ‘mala’. When I began to use the electric-blue ceramic beads, everyone who saw them was dramatically drawn to them! The colour had such a tremendous impact on every man, woman and child’s spirit, filling them with Happiness. Each soul was resonating with the luster of the beads and brilliant electric blue vibration, which I refer to as ‘Kali Blue’… it connected each being with their regal, Divine, pure, noble nature.

Our online store carries a large range of prayer beads to accommodate any of your tastes and desires.

How To Use Prayer Beads

using prayer beadsPrayer beads consist of 108 beads, which gives 108 repetitions of your mantra. The traditional way is to hold the beads in your hand and move each bead between your thumb and middle finger moving one bead with each prayer or mantra. However, I find that personally, it works best for me to use my thumb and forefinger.

I recommend you try the prescribed way, but if that doesn’t flow for you after some effort, then go with what does flow for you.

By using prayer beads, mantra repetition becomes supremely easy and you will find that it instils in you a sense of refuge, connecting you to a place of Peace within you.

If I recommended you do 108 repetitions of a mantra, you might feel that it would take forever to do this! However, by utilising the prayer beads you will find that 108 repetitions may only take ten or fifteen minutes to complete, depending on the speed you pray at.
