About the Chamunda Mantra

This mantra calls forth Divine Mother’s Warrior Goddess aspect as Chamunda (pronounced Chaa-moon-daa).  In this aspect Divine Mother, the Great Goddess, is honored and invoked as The Grantor of Boons and The Slayer of Chanda and Munda, two power-full demons: Anger and self-destructive Passion.

This name was given to Divine Mother Kali-Durga when She defeated those two evil forces, as recounted in the ancient scripture, "The Chandi Path". So when you invoke Chamunda, you are actually invoking Kali, The Light of The Universe.

The Chandi Path is one of my favorite scriptures and I recommend it to everyone. It is an invaluable tool for awakening to the way dark forces control humanity and the Grace that is available for every being to break free of the destructive influences.

I especially resonate with the translation by Swami Satyananda Saraswatee of Devi Mandir. In the Chandi Path you will discover the accurate names of the dark voices that goad humanity into self-destructive behavior.

Just as my book "The Impeccable Warrior of Light: Mantras And Rituals For Spiritual Protection" is a soul strengthening book, so is the Chandi Path…which is rich in mantras for invoking Divine Mother as the Vanquisher of all negative programming.

I recommend you travel everywhere with these two books. In this way, if any negativity manifests on your path, by referring to both these books, you will be able to quickly re-direct your energy to removing it from your Life instead of allowing it to run you over.

Using the Chamunda Seed Mantra

In my "Master the Keys of Spiritual Protection Online Course" I give the course participants an exercise to name the negative forces that manipulate them. Naming any malicious energy that is stalking you is a supremely valuable way to take back your power. You must become aware of who is plundering your golden energy through self-destructive patterns!

I also give the Spiritual Protection course participants other exercises for banishing those injurious bullies that seek to taint the soul of every being. In the course I have instructed the participants to work with the mantras Om Jaya Chandi Jaya Jaya and Kali Durge Namo Nama. These two mantras are similar to the Chamunda seed mantra in that they invoke the Fierce Love of the Universe to defend the seeker against all malevolent energies.

"Om Jaya Chandi Jaya Jaya" and "Kali Durge Namo Nama" are also ancient, effective streams of Light-filled sacred sound which invoke the Supreme Relievers of Suffering: Kali and Durga. This is the same power you will experience in the Chamunda seed mantra. These three mantras and any other mantras invoking Kali, Durga, Chandika, Chamunda or Tara is calling in the BIG protection of the Universe to come and defend you against any forces that push you into negative, ugly, demeaning, soul-tainting, self destructive thought patterns.

How The Chamunda Mantra Works

When you invoke this mantra, you invite the energy of Divine Mother Chamunda, who is The Light of the Universe, to circulate in your mind. As you invoke The Light to be triumphant within you and around you, She floods your mind, battling the demons of intense emotions and self-destructive urges.

The key with all mantras is to use them constantly. Through continual invocation, Divine Mother Chamunda (The Light) will continue to consume more and more of the armies of evil thoughts that are directed by the demons Anger and Destructive Passion.

This mantra includes a string of power-full seed mantras (Beeja sounds) that have been used for thousands of years during sacred fire ceremonies (pujuas). The mantras are chanted as offerings are poured into the fire. The word “Bija” (Beej) means “seed” and a seed letter is known as a Beeja-akshara.

To understand the power of a Bija mantra, think of how a tiny seeds produces a huge tree! It is taught that when you repeat seed sounds, which are concise, condensed, power-packed sounds, you stir up the Cosmic Creative power and generate “Shakti”, Energy. As you generate the positive power within you - which is GRACE - you change your karma.

The Relievers of Suffering, those Ultimate Warrioresses of Light such as Durga, Chamunda, Chandika and Tara, are aspects of Kali who is the Commander of the Legions of Light. And Kali in the form of Chamunda, slays the forces that have been pushing you into intense emotions, intense actions and intense patterns that are not in alignment with Wisdom and Self-Love.

The Seed Sounds Used in the Chamunda Mantra

AUM (OM) - honors primordial sound, the timeless Creative Force that births all realities.

AIM - invokes Divine Mother Saraswatee, the Goddess of Wisdom and Knowledge. Her beneficent vibration is also that of sacred sound and healing.

HREEM - This seed sound invokes expansion, increase and power, which is often used in invoking Divine Mother Durga as well as other manifestations of Divine Mother.

KLEEM - This is Kali’s seed mantra, Her seed sound which invokes Her Fierce form to come and defend the Light in you, everyone and everywhere.

When these seed sounds are combined with the rest of the mantra, you are calling forth a Victory for all these energies. Isn’t that fantastically Compassionate!

Surround Yourself with a Mystical Protective Shield

The three Goddess of Light mantras I have mentioned can be used to protect yourself against outer attacks as well as against the inner dark voices and urges. If anyone is using black magic to attack you, continually play the Mantra CDs available in our online store. Your home, body and mind must become saturated with the mantra in order to defend yourself properly. 

Just as the Mystical Protective Shield Mantra we have recorded in the “Mystical Protective Shield cd” provides you a protective shield around any space, yourself or a loved one, so does the Chamunda seed mantra. All the mantras I have mentioned give the same basic command… they simply say it in a slightly different way. They are all calling forth the Fierce Love of the Universe to protect you by destroying negative patterns within you and vanquishing any outer dark forces that attack you. 

In The Impeccable Warrior Of Light book, I have given many tools with which you can defend yourself. One of them is to add power to your mantra repetition by making a circle of energetic sacred symbols around you. You can draw in the air, or envision in your mind that you are making a sign with your hands such as a cross or an Om symbol.

In the book I also share the technique of snapping your fingers or clapping your hands to ward off attacks by dark forces. You can use this tool along with this sacred sound to place an energetic shield around yourself or others.

The more you repeat this mantra or the other two mantras I have mentioned here, the more you become FULL OF LIGHT! The more you become a temple for the Forces of Light and the less space there is for dark forces to live in you. In this way, you change your self, you change the quality of your Life and you therefore alter your Destiny!
